My Country, Tis of Thee

On Monday morning, my sweetie Nathan turned on the Inauguration ceremonies while I made waffles to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr day. The re-inauguration ceremonies on Sunday and Monday to me were a somber reminder of the privileges and responsibilities that come from living in a Democratic-Republic. Since I am a Mother now, I am more keenly sensitive to my responsibility to know and understand the Constitution, to understand principles of freedom and righteousness, and to teach them to Mason someday, just as my parents taught me of their love and gratitude for our Country and to our ancestors who came here for freedom. I hope I can live up to the blessings I have been given and pass on that freedom to my children. I feel so grateful for the Constitution, written by humble men who sought to use their gifts and talents to help their fellow-man and generations to come. They were not perfect (as no human being but Christ has ever been), but I do believe they were sent at that time for a special purpose. It is that foresight and sacrifice that I admire so much. I have re-commited myself to be a good informed Citizen, know history (read and re-read original documents and other histories as well as educating myself on current events) so that I can use my voice in defense of freedom and truth. I hope that I can also try to remember to pray with frequency for our President, Congress, and other State and local leaders to guide us through these perilous times. God bless these United States, as we remember Him, His commandments, and turn to Him.
