We had a lot of fun the last few weeks. September seems to have flown by! While Nate studies a lot, I also feel so fulfilled right now as a Mom. I've almost never enjoyed it more than now. Maybe it's because we just got through a huge transition period, and now I feel like sighing a huge sigh of relief. Also, Mason and Stanley seem to be enjoying each other more and more, which really is one of the sweetest parts of my life right now. This morning we woke up to the sound of them giggling together. Moments like those (heart melts), makes all of the work and sacrifice of Mothering...seem so small.
I had fun decorating my new little apartment - and it really feels more like home now. I love our apartment. I'm happy here. We even created a music room/guest bedroom in the basement....so we're ready for visitors (we love them)! :). I feel like we are all gradually adjusting to our new home, to two children, and to life in law school. The feeling of being settled, is a good one. At least for a few years :). Fortunate for us we are surrounded by many good people. Life was feeling settled at least, until I was called as Choir Director today. That means I have about two months to prepare for the Christmas program (ah!). I'm under the gun - but coming from the House of Jacob - that's like a fish swimming in water. Eleven kids - means - winging it...a lot. We got good at it, too! :). I'm praying for strong support. I'm hoping we'll get a good showing. Cookies and grapes, anyone? As well as a nursery! I'll be calling both my Mom as well as my Mother-in-law this week to recruit their musical knowledge, skills, and background.
Highlights from this month: Visiting Carter Mountain for Peach picking season with Nate's cousin and great Aunt and Uncle. We also got to go with them, to a pre-show of a Summer concert series Charlottesville hosts called 'Fridays after 5'. Free concerts downtown. I love this city more and more. That same night we dropped BOTH of our children off at the home of dear friends here, and listened to a lecture by a scholar in our Church at UVA about Joseph Smith and Thomas Jefferson. So very fascinating. It's fun to be surrounded by wonderful scholars here.
Another highlight was getting to celebrate Constitution Day at Montpelier (James Madison's home), with my wonderful cousin Verlan and his beautiful little family. It was a fun family event, with a free tour of the house (after 10 dollar admission/vehicle). Usually tours are $15/person, so we were grateful to go on that day (aka - poor law students). They also had fun entertainment, free cotton candy, air balloon rides, and amazing actors who played the part of James and Dolly Madison extremely well. I left with a greater understanding, respect, and appreciation for those two!
Nate and I also have played tennis a few Saturdays with some friends, and Mason and I have made some sweet friends close to us here as well. So grateful!
I've posted a few pictures. Captions are complementary of Nate - who was determined to write this post, but only got as far as writing the captions (poor guy is so busy right now!). Well...that's where I come in. Grateful at least one of us is not going to school or working right now!
Speaking of Nate - he's having some amazing experiences and opportunities here already so far- as far as scholarship, and meeting with high profile professors. He feels really so happy here, and like it's a perfect fit for his future prospects, goals, and dreams. That of course makes me happy. We know this is the place for us to be right now, and that's a really good feeling.
Have a great week everyone!
