the drive from Florida to Charlottesville

The drive home was quite eventful. We stayed a night in Georgia, then the next morning stopped to see the Prisoner of War Museum and the location of the Civil War Southern Prisoner of War camp. It was rather somber, but it gave me a bigger appreciation for men and women who are and have been prisoners of war. It was such a well done museum, and I'm so glad we went there. Georgia is also the place where Nate spent the first two months of his mission, so it was fun to pass through. We also stopped in Atlanta - the home of Martin Luther King Jr, Jimmy Carter, The 1996 Olympics, and you guessed it  - Coca Cola. We also ate at the biggest drive in diner in the world there, 'Varsity'. We drove through the crazy Atlanta traffic and finally arrived home in Charlottesville the next morning through a 6 hour rain storm at 3 am, so happy to be home. Thanks Nate for driving - and I stayed up with him (you're welcome!) :). When we pulled up, Mason woke up from his sleep and said 'that was an amazing trip'. Well said buddy, well said.

Nate had to stop at 'Krystal' - another Southern fast food joint

The Jimmy Carter Library Gardens

Nothing like a fresh corn dog, eh Stan?

I can hear the Olympic theme music right now playing in my head

teaching Mason how to wink was a little more than entertaining :)

Oddly enough this gas station seems to not have had business in a while. Love the sign in front too! No wonder - look at the price of that gas! :). So happy that gas is a bit cheaper now days. I guess some things do improve with time!

  1. I have heard of this POW Camp and some of its horrors but have never been there. We can't appreciate enough the blessings of a united country "one nation under God" and the price paid for it. Those snow cones were amazing: big and colorful, and it looks like they got them eaten up:) That is a feat in and of itself! These are precious times; tuck them away in your memory and bring them up to lighten and delight your hearts. Love you, Mom
